ENGLISH LANGUAGE LEARNERS

ESL offers speakers of other languages the opportunity to learn or improve their English language skills for a variety of purposes.

Whatever your primary reason for learning English, our ESL program offers English and Civic classes at no cost to adults in a welcoming, growth-centered environment so that learners are able to:

• communicate effectively with other English speakers

• understand critical conversations around transportation, medical and social services

• increase work and promotion opportunities

• engage in your child’s schooling

• advance academic and career goals

• achieve your naturalization goals

• participate in civic responsibilities such as voting

Instructional support, books, and study resources will be provided so that ESL students can continue learning independently and apply their English language skills.

A rich and nurturing community of dedicated volunteers will support our English learners to provide opportunities for conversation, activities in which friendships may be established and a sense of belonging is developed. 

Classes Offered

ESL classes will be offered in-person at various times throughout the week or Saturdays to accommodate working families.

ESL classes, conversational ESL, civics classes, and tutoring will be offered at all points of entry.  Prospective ESL students will take a placement exam in order to determine which level ESL class they should attend — to include:

• Foundational English for the Pre-Literate student

  • You are seeking to learn English and are not yet literate in their native language.

• Beginner Student

  • You have no or little command of the English language.

• Intermediate Student

  • You can communicate in English but are seeking vocabulary and grammar instruction.

• Advanced

  • You can read, write, and communicate in English and are looking to master your English language skills and/or pursue academic or technical pathways.
